Sustainable Heritage Strategy: incorporate new dimensions into investment and financing choices

Abstract

Building and sustaining heritage means making technical and financial choices that are closely linked to environmental, social and economic issues. In order to help policy makers take better account of the different dimensions of sustainability in their investment choices, two innovative approaches developed by IRSTEA are presented here, one aimed at integrating the environmental dimension in a more structured way in the investment decision for a sanitation system, and the other addressing the economic and social dimension in the strategy for the renewal of drinking water networks in the long term.
