Abstract
At present, mainstreaming has been highlighted as an important element of the new curricula and reform proposals; however, the need to address certain topics or content relating to health, consumption, the environment, coexistence, violence, sexuality, gender and others, which are still known to teachers, have not reached school. Talking about gender mainstreaming means taking a political, critical and scientific stance against oppression, inequality and undervaluing one gender against another. The presentation of this topic, in education, is crucial because of the wave of violence against women in Mexico City in recent years, and it is considered that school level can help to understand how teachers can support the idea of transforming the social imaginaries that keep the idea of male as supreme. The purpose of the text is to provide guidelines or forms of the functionality of the gender mainstreaming approach in education. The final reflections focus on the potential of gender mainstreaming at the educational level, by regaining the debate on the traditional organisation and selection of content, as well as the social problems that have emerged in times and society.
