Abstract
This article tracks a series of recent contributions to the knowledge of the problem of violence against women in rural and indigenous contexts. He argues that the fight against domestic violence has been a beautiful aspect of the work carried out by rural women’s organisations that question their oppressive relationships. A key resource has been the search for justice and the affirmation of new conceptions about women’s rights and the place they should occupy in their communities. In this process, organisations take ownership of new national and international standards to support their challenges to the current social order, constituting an important factor pointing to possible transformations in gender representations and practices in rural contexts.
