PREVENTION AND CONTROL STRATEGIES FOR DENGUE IN ARACAJU: POTENTIAL AND WEAKNESSES

Abstract

Dengue is a serious illness that has spread throughout the country. This objective work therefore analyses the perception of ACES and managers about the functioning of the Dengue Municipal Control Programme (PMCD) in order to identify the potential and weaknesses of the control measures of the Aedes aegypti in Aracaju-SE. The survey took place in the New City and Jabotiana neighbourhoods, which had the highest and lowest mosquito infestation rate respectively in the municipality in 2014. The subjects of this study were: six managers and thirteen Epidemiological Surveillance (Epidemiological Surveillance) ACES. Literature, documentary and field searches have been carried out and interviews with managers are applied; participatory workshops and interviews with ACES. Several factors have been found to contribute to the spread of the vector: low quantity and low value, empowerment of ACES; poor intersectionality between health equipment and services; discontinuing community-oriented health education strategies, among others. It is understood that the policies for controlling dengue established in Aracaju are still verticalised and focused on mechanical and chemical control, and there is a need for participatory and guided actions in environmental education.
