The didactic use of personal learning environments in bachelor’s students

Abstract

Personal Learning Engines are the fabric that people create from the network of tools and spaces they use to learn, i.e. their own learning environment (Castañeda and Gutiérrez, 2010). We therefore present in this article the most relevant results to understand the strategies used by students in relation to self-perception and communication, the management of the learning process and the management of information to benefit and formalise their learning. In this case, we submit the relevant data from the CAPPLE project (EDU2012-33256, funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) with regard to students from the last year of their careers in the various areas of knowledge and qualifications provided by higher education institutions. The aim is to know these environments, how they are unique, which strategies led to their training and what are the limitations they present. A mixed methodological design is followed, both quantitative and qualitative, which allowed the research instrument to be approached and validated. The results are linked to the purpose of internet access, preferences for collaboration, study planning and critical analysis of information. The implications for practice are discussed.
