Abstract
Primary carers of children with autism show lower quality of life, higher overload and depression. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between quality of life and overload of primary carers of children with Autista Spectrum Trastorno (TEA) assisting the Institute for the Comprehensive Development of the Autistic Child. This investigation is of a descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional nature. The sample, intentional and convenient, consisted of 29 primary carers of boys and girls with ASD. The analysis of the information, collected through the socio-demographic survey, the Zarit carer’s overload scale, the PHQ-9 survey and the SF-36 survey, was carried out using the SPSS statistical processing software version 21. No changes were shown for the three variables assessed. The results are discussed in the light of the scientific literature on the subject, and the findings will lead to the creation of public policies focused on caregivers, in order to design and strengthen family intervention programmes.
