Physiological measurements of anxiety: progress and possibilities

Abstract

The assessment of anxiety is an issue of research relevance due to the high prevalence and current incidence of this disorder and the effect shown in the various areas of performance. The purpose of this review article is to report on developments in the development of physiological techniques for the assessment of anxiety, especially those involving voice analysis. As regards the method followed for the review of scientific articles, those dealing with the addition of physiological techniques were included in the assessment of anxiety, which could prove their validity; given the shortage offered in this regard, articles were selected showing correlations between measurements with subjective and physiological tests, focusing on the final search for the measurement of anxiety from the voice. The EBSCO, ScienceDirect and Scopus platforms were used to search online, selecting articles and revisions including the related terms of anxietycorrelates, Physiological correlatesand anxiety, anxiety or emotional speech recognition, voice recognition, fear, without any time limit on publications, given the low number of items collected. The results provide valuable information against current developments in the psychophysiological measurement of anxiety and the importance of the use of correlations for the validity of the results. As regards speech anxiety studies, there is no empirical evidence to validate the results with other correlations of physiological and psychological measures.
