Papá Noel en la pira

Abstract

In ‘Papá Noel en la pira’, Lévi-Strauss deflects the approach to the noble old in historical and ethnological fisheries. The first brings it to medieval legends where festivities of the Roman Empire survive and dark celebrations where children and deaths are confused. The second immerses the reader in speculation about the relationship between the living and the dead taken by the Katchina of North American Indians. He notes that this mediator masks the presence of death and tends to deny it.
