The Mamulengos Theatre of yesterday and today: the importance of recognising the Brazilian Traditional Theatre as an intangible cultural heritage of Brazil

Abstract

This article proposes a reflection on the Mamulengos Theatre today in the light of its history, accentuating its resistance as a cultural manifestation over time. Disagrees on aspects relating to the recent recognition of this theatre as intangible and cultural patrimony of Brazil by the Iphan (Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artiístico Nacional). For this purpose, it uses specific bibliography and interview with Danilo Cavatinti, mamulengueiro and organiser of the Mamulengos Meeting, a festival of great importance in the area.
