The trajectory of infantojuvenile tenists: age of initiation, technical training, loads, injuries and parental support

Abstract

This article describes the starting age, training and competition loads, the incidence of injuries, the technical content of training and the parental support received by infantojuvenile tenists. The study sample consisted of 20 athletes (14,2 ± 0,4 years) and 12 male coaches (34,2 ± 7,6 years). Two factsheets were used to monitor socio-demographic and control variables, ITTT-12 and the Family Success to Participation in Sport Questionnaire. Calculations of frequency, central trend, dispersion and KolmoČ v-Smirnov and t-Student tests were performed (p ≤ 0,05). The results indicated that tenists started at approximately eight years of age, trained on average 427 hours and participated in 41 official matches over the season. The incidence of injuries and severities were low. Parents have served to some extent as a model for sportive practice. Evidence of early technical expertise was found.
