Abstract
El This work analyses the ruling of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in Case I.V. v. Bolivia, depending on its contribution to the development of the concept of individual autonomy taking into account its relational aspect, highlighting the conditions necessary for women to make decisions in the area of their sexual and reproductive health free from violence, discrimination and negative gender stereotypes. Furthermore, by carefully addressing the requirement of the patient’s informed consent prior to medical practice, the ruling highlights the necessary connection between access to reproductive health information and the effective exercise of individual autonomy. The present work analyses of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights’ judgement in I.V. vs. Bolivia in light of its contribution to the development of the concept of personal autonomy, taking into account its Relational and reproductive health, free of violence, discrimination or negative gender discrimination. Moreover, while addressing the duty to employ patients informed for medical treatment, the performance of a proper access to sexual and reproductive health information in order to guarantee an effective exercise of personal autonomy.
