Equal participation rights of persons with disabilities in the knowledge society: a review of Venezuelan public policy

Abstract

The idea is to bring people with disabilities closer to the reality of the equal participation of persons with disabilities in the knowledge society and, in particular, to the regulation that Venezuela offers to this end. The methodology used is documentary, referencing the legal framework related to the disability theme offered by the country. It was found that the legal framework and specifically the public policies implemented to date in Venezuela to comply with this right are still insufficient, despite the important steps taken in this regard; it does not have strong legal structures to enhance this initiative for the human development of this social group and, consequently, of the nation. The important role of participation within the specific environments of the knowledge society is not exploited in the context of equal opportunities and the inclusion of vulnerable social groups such as this.
