The social and symbolic importance of the myth: from classical antiquity to establishing mythology as science

Abstract

The myth corresponds to the narrative of an original time, the forerunner of all times, in which we can find the models and examples that determine and make sense of life. Having accompanied human beings since the early days of humanity, the myth has been rooted in human behaviour, symbolically explaining human and natural facts. With this work, we seek to understand the social and symbolic importance of the myth, throughout different human societies, so as to understand ontologically both the social function of the myth and the establishment of mythology as science.
