Design science: philosophy of research in information science and technology

Abstract

A Design Science Research (or DSR) is a metateur that investigates knowledge generation in the design process. artefacts, i.e. on how design methods can be scientific research. The aim of the article is to present an analysis of DSR as a theoretical and methodological framework for the scientific rationale of research into technology and information and knowledge management, an important field of information science. To analyse DSR and synthesise the results, the method used was to review in the relevant literature those aspects of DSR considered most relevant to the field. The most cited articles have been analysed over the last 50 years. The result of the analysis is the surprising finding of the complete lack of awareness of DSR in information science literature, both national and international, and more specifically in the field cited. It follows that, although unknown in information science, DSR should be seen as one of the most appropriate methodologies to guide the conduct of scientific research in technology and information and knowledge management, in an approach that combines the relevance of practical application with scientific rigour.
