An experimental prototype of an expert system for the diagnosis of mechanical faults in cars, based on real-time interaction, is presented. This system is a diagnostic tool for mechanical technicians, practitioners and people with basic knowledge of automotive mechanics and can also be used as a smart tutor system for a self-propelled mechanics course.
