The mobilisation of issues of mankind and sexuality and the strengthening of the right in Brazil

Abstract

The article looks at as speeches and actions contrary to the rights of women and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, crossings and transgêrens (LGBT) contributed to the strengthening of the extreme right in Brazil. A contextualisation of gênery and sexuality disputes in the country in the latest decades indicate that these issues were at the heart of Brazilian policy in different moments such as in the 2010 elections; in the religious offensive in the Chamber members against the so-called “gay kit” in 2011; at the joint for withdrawal of the words ‘gênero’ and ‘sexual orientation’ in the National Education Plan in 2014; in the misogyny in the impeachment case against the President Dilma Rousseff etc. At these moments, conservative political actors won the they have been challenged and strengthened in the political field. The conservative religious offensive has had the role of evangelical and Catholic politicians, including current President Jair Bolsonaro, who took advantage of a number of controversial issues to boost her political career.
