Colombia between international integration and development challenges

Abstract

Colombia has been in a paradox for a number of years, with sustained growth above some countries in the region, in 2010 becoming part of the CIVETS, one of the acronyms of the new emerging countries, over the last ten years the levels of exports and foreign investment have risen year on year, with a record level in 2013, the year from which they start to decline, but remain a key development commitment. In addition, since 2010, the country has been taking steps to join the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and by 2015 it has led the list of Latin American countries on the Doing Business list. But at the same time, Colombia has major development challenges, including a transition to peace, poverty reduction and inclusive growth, among others.
