Postural alterations and risk factors in schoolchildren aged 8-13 from a public educational institution, year 2016

Abstract

Posture is a body position or attitude, which is the characteristic way it takes for a specific activity; it is therefore necessary to maintain a correct stance and achieve the highest return on the different daily activities. The most common postural alterations are cyphosis, hyperlordosis, scoliosis, and are influenced by risk factors. To determine the risk factors that will cause postural disturbances in children aged 8 to 13 at the ‘Richard Burgos Suárez’ Tax Basic School of Education in the Trinitarian Island Sector of the City of Guayaquil. A prospective study was carried out, with a quantitative approach, non-experimental cross-sectional design, relational scope and deductive method. For this purpose, surveys were carried out, Test postural, Adams and Busquet. The population was 388 students, of which 198 children were sampled according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Choliosis incidence of 41 % of the total population; of which 24 % are structural aetiology and 76 % functional, 67 % of cases have muscle – skeletal origin and 33 % are cranial origin. Following the analysis of the risk factors, they presented a significant level, the excessive weight of the rucksack and the design of school furniture. It is important to pay due attention to postural problems in order to avoid the introduction of postural alterations in schoolchildren.
