Abstract
This text seeks, from categories such as patrimony (material and intangible), museums and collections, to reflect on the erasure of the memory of Afro-Brazilian culture in Brazilian museum institutions and on latent contradictions, negotiations, tensions and disputes over the Afro-Brazilian patrimony and the way it is represented in museums. It will be analysed whether or not museums address the above issue, either by silencing settlements and heritage references of African origin in most of them, or by the almost complete absence of museums exclusively devoted to afro culture in Brazil. On the other hand, it presents some cases of Afro-Brazilian intangible assets highlighted by the application of the federal legal guardianship instrument known as the “registro of cultural objects of an intangible nature” and some of its implications. Finally, as an emblematic case of resistance and blackouts, this article will provide a narrow and fruitful space in uncovered or uncovered references to Porto Maravilha in Rio de Janeiro.
