This article discusses the current language situation in the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is formed as follows. Currently, the following languages operate in the territory of the republic: Azerbaijani — the state language of the AR; English — foreign language; Russian — at the same time a foreign language, a language of national minorities and a language of interethnic communication; Turkish — a foreign language and a language of national minorities; German, Spanish, Italian, French — foreign European languages; Lezginsky, Georgian, Talysh language — languages of national minorities. It is known that the ergonims of the city can reflect the linguistic situation, the political situation and such a process as the mutual influence of languages in the republic. In this regard, we have taken ergonims as the object of the study, as these terms combine economics, linguistics, aesthetics.The purpose of the work is to establish the relationship of language preferences of nominees with the language situation. The comparison of language preferences of nominees with the language situation is given. The author concludes that the current language situation is reflected in the ergonomics of the city.
