Evaluation of the perception of the impact of the CaixaproInfancia programme in Mallorca

Abstract

The ICC programme is an initiative of the Social Work “Caixa” that provides social and educational support through sociofamiliar and interdimensional work, in response to child poverty. This article presents qualitative research aimed at knowing the impact of the CaixaProinfancia (ICC) programme on Mallorca from the perspective of interest groups. Mallorca has the highest levels of poverty in the State; it is the Autonomous Community with the highest share of international immigration and the provision of public services, especially social services, suffers from a historical deficit. The work presented included the perception of the families participating in the programme, the professionals involved and the key actors in the territory involved in the programme. The programme has brought about positive changes especially in children and to a lesser extent in families. They recognise the acquisition of parental skills to improve intra-militarian relationships, to have more personal time and to feel supported both by the work of programme professionals and by reaching out to other families. While children see improvements in school performance, behaviour, social relationships and autonomy and motivation for studies. Networking has also been developed, which, together with developments in services, has led to a clear improvement in impacts. This is due in particular to the creation of a Community context that has made sense for the various actions taken. Overall, the perceived results of the programme are satisfactory and the successful implementation of the various actions of the IPC programme in Mallorca gives access to new phases of programme development, giving particular prominence to Community work.
