Abstract
In this study, the causality relationship between climate change (heat and precipitation changes) and sugar beet production was explored for the period 1961-2016 in Turkey. In order to test whether there was a long-term relationship between variables, an analysis of cohesion was carried out and the causality relationship between the variables and the causality relationship was examined. A time-changed symmetric causality test was carried out, based on Hacker and Hatemi-J (2006) to examine causality between variables. In addition, a time-changed asymmetric causality test based on Hatemi-J (2012) has been used to demonstrate negative and positive shocks caused by positive and negative developments due to climate change in sugar beet production. According to the findings obtained, there is a long-term relationship between variables. Based on this long-term relationship, according to the Granger causality analysis, there was no causality relationship towards sugar beet production from climate change. However, when the relationship is explored by subsection, it appears that there is a causality relationship from climate change to sugar beet production, and this relationship varies with temperature and precipitation variables. Accordingly, temperature variations are both negative and positive, while precipitation changes only have a positive effect.
