Analysis of some variants of epic poem 'Marko Kraljević and Mina od Kostura'

Abstract

The collective principle of creating oral tradition and its transmission along different epochs and different geographic areas have influence on qualitative differentiation, but also on a different content that reflects the new circumstances. Considering the time and place of their origin, their possibly common historical core and their common composition scheme, the analysed versions of the poem 'Marko Kraljević and Mina od Kostura' show the evolution of Serbian heroic poetry in general. Interpolating the international topic of a husband coming to his wife's wedding, the stylistic devices of this tradition (usual figures and numbers, formulativeness), as well as by considering a wider context of this poem's position in the poetic cycle about Marko Kraljević, I will answer the questions relating to its durability and long lasting transmission. The scripts saved from years 1700 to 1933 can as well be considered different stages in the evolution of our folk literature and the different versions as illustrations of all the different circumstances under which the Serbian people lived in that long period of time.
