Abstract
Summary This article deals with the process of implementing ethnobotanical settlements in Brazil, focusing on Brazilian Amazon collections and their importance ahead of the targets of the Global Strategy for the Conservation of Plants (GSPC) in Brazil. two are located in the south-east – in the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro (JBRJ) and in the Botanic Garden of the Zoobotannica de Minas Gerais (JBFZB-BH), and two in the Pará State – the Paraense Emilia Goeldi Museum (MPEG) and the University of the State of Pará (UEPA) – gathering more than one thousand and five hundred samples, distributed in different categories of use, in particular medicinal products. These collections reflect the importance of the flora of Mata Atlântica, Cerrado and Amazon biomes in a variety of socio-cultural contexts and are linked to the activities aimed at achieving at least three of the targets outlined by the GSPC. They should therefore be encouraged and supported, given their invaluable scientific and cultural value.
