Abstract

The article looks at the strategies of young people from popular sectors in the town of Usme in Bogotá to join the university. By qualitative method, interviews and discussion groups were conducted with the graduates and respondents by Romero (2009) who said they wished to join the university when they were close to completing the baccalaureate. The research found that aspirations, while important to advance strategies towards the rise of the educational pyramid, are not the main driver since the social origin and regulation of the educational field are decisive both in the realisation of their expectations and in the production of inhabits and practices aimed at achieving it.
