Resumo Este artigo apresenta algumas reflexões sobre as questões de gênero presentes nas práticas culturais de cuidados e educação de crianças no Brasil no Período Colonial. Ao considerarmos que a história da infância e a experiência da criança são também atravessadas pela sua condição social e por seu pertencimento de gênero, recorremos a esta categoria com o intuito de destacar algumas práticas de educação e cuidados na infância que foram construídas no Brasil colônia com base nas diferenças sexuais, bem como apontar alguns papéis e funções atribuídos às meninas e aos meninos, no período referendado, que tiveram como base tais diferenças. As análises empreendidas partem da consideração da criança como um sujeito imerso na dinâmica dos acontecimentos sociais, em que a estrutura econômica e social incide diretamente nas formas de as crianças vivenciarem a infância. When we consider that the history of childhood and the experience of children are also crossed by their social condition and gender belonging, we used this category to highlight some practices of education and care in childhood built in Colonial Brazil based on sex differences. We also point out some roles and functions attributed to girls and boys during this period, based on such differences. The analysis undertaken depart from the consideration of the child as a subject immersed in the dynamics of social events, in which the economic and social structure focuses directly on the ways children experience childhood.
