FOR A DIRECTORY OF TRANSLATIONS INTO ITALY IN ISTRIA AND FRIULI-VENEZIA GIULIA IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY

Abstract

The growing focus on translation theory and history in Italy has not been followed by the drafting of bibliographic directories of translations published in volume before the 20th century. Despite the undeniable shortcomings, the eighteenth century Catalogue of Italian books made it possible to draw up a first list of translations published in the period 1850-1899. This article sets out the ways, problems and prospects of research and reports on the results for the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Further research into the OPAC of the National Library Service has made it possible to identify translations published in today’s Slovenian and Croatian Istria. These spoons are not exhaustive, but allow for an initial assessment of the translation phenomenon in the geographical area and in the period under consideration.
