Developing intercultural competence through music education: a literature review

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyse how intercultural competition has been addressed through music. This is intended to highlight the strengths and weaknesses that musical education may have contributed to the development of intercultural competence. The text has been divided into four sections. The first one conceptualises intercultural education and intercultural competence. The second one presents an explicit review of the legal framework around interculturalism and music. The third one deals with some of the studies showing how music is able to enhance intercultural competition. Finally, conclusions are presented, including conceptual and methodological foresight on the topic.
