Abstract
The aim of the article is to analyse the sociocultural aspects of the map and the pragmatic aspects of the creation, circulation, use, including social modification. The spectrum of such activities includes both professional and vernacular activities, creative competences and acceptance competences. The map is defined as a cultural fact which is subject to historical and geographical conditions at multiple levels. The article refers to the demo-cratisation process of the map and its functions: propaganda, persuasive, revival, compensatory, emotional and autobiographical.
