L'image du mauvais moine: Les remnuoths et les sarabaïtes de Jérôme et de Cassien

Abstract

Two Latin authors of the 4th and 5th century offer a typology of good and bad monks. Both of them describe the lifestyles of monks in Egypt. Their aim was to condemn the lifestyle of monks living in the West, but the main point was to condemn domestic monasticism and to replace it with the coenobitic one.
