Abstract

The objectives of the qualitative research contained in this article are to investigate children’s ideas about news production and to generate learning situations that promote critical media reading. The focus of this research article is on discursive knowledge and on the lines of development of conceptualisations on the production and circulation of news from pupils from the sixth primary school in the city of Buenos Aires. Children warn about requirements for a fact to be news, but fail to tell that news is subject to media selection and production processes. This research is expected to shed light on concepts and representations of children and young people on the production of news to help design learning situations that allow them to pass a naive media reading. For example, by promoting discussion on invisibilised aspects of news production (selection and editing), ways of dealing with facts and views taken. The aim is also to consider ways of progressing, during schooling, of content and ways of reflecting on media discourse on these ideas.
