History of Psychology in Islam

Abstract

Psychological science emerged from the second half of the 1700s and had a function to fill the gap in the religious field. The origin of modern psychology was the first teaching of sin and the West created a pessimistic perspective on human beings, so there were problems at the point of understanding the human enigma. It is not able to solve the right person with the wrong prescriptions. However, with transpersonal psychology and the emergence of the positive psychology approach, it has become clear that it is important to focus on the spiritual field. After this process, ancient spiritual traditions based on Taoism and Hinduism appear to be used in psychological therapy and well-being. However, studies on Islamic spirituality have not been conducted in the field of psychology for many years. At this point, Malik Badri and Rajhid Skinner's work under Islamic Psychology are the theoretical and practical works of Robert Frager on Sufi therapy, theoretical and practical studies and dream analysis made by Mustafa Merter, and work on Maneviyat Psychology, led by Erciyes University in 2014.
