Research on renewable energy in the humanities: looking for analytical milestones on energy transitions for sustainability

Abstract

In this article, we propose to review the literature on renewable energies through bibliometric data, collected in four repositories (Google Scholar, Scielo, Redalyc, CAPES Catalog of Theses and Dissertations), in order to draw an overview of scientific production on the subject. The results point to a consolidation of Brazilian research on the subject, especially in the areas of Engineering, Multidisciplinary, Agrarian Sciences and Applied Social Sciences. This consolidation was not accompanied by the Humanities, which did not build a research agenda that followed the international literature. In the second part, three frameworks are presented that can contribute to fill this gap, especially in the areas of Sociology, Political Science and Public Policy. We conclude by stating the need to expand research on the Latin American reality and to conduct comparative studies on political and institutional factors that impact energy transitions to sustainability.
