Analysis of editorial policies of national scientific journals: Contributions to the Bulletin of the Paraense Museum Emílio Goeldi. Humanities

Abstract

RESUMO This article analyses editorial policies of national scientific journals indexed by SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) in the areas of Antropology, Archaeology and Language with the aim of identifying similarities and differences compared to the current editorial policy of the Bulletin of the Paraense Museum Emílio Goeldi. Human Sciences. The aim of the research is to recommend possible adjustments to the current editorial policy of the periodical centenary of the Paris Museum Emílio Goeldi. The research has adopted a quality-quantitative approach using documentary and bibliographic techniques for the collection of data. The variables analysed in the editorial policy documents were: the languages in which submissions are accessed; the formats of the originals: if printed or electronic; the sections into which the published content is subdivided; the peer review process; authorship requirements; the origin of the published content; the criteria for accessing the published content; indexation of periodicals in national and international databases; and the policy of detecting plagiarism. The comparative examination of these elements showed the efficiency of the rules and instructions in force in the Bulletin, while indicating the need to detail the scope of the magazine when it comes to related areas, in the case of disciplines such as sociology, geography and others.
