King Arthur of Purcell and Dryden, a dramatic semi-opera or opera in the words of Dryden, breaks with the English heroic fashion and shapes the narrative of the Arthurian legend according to the criteria of GRE-Roman mythology. Whether read from a poetic or political point of view, King Arthur reverts to the scene the values of a golden and peace age and reflects in his way the aesthetics of the English Restauration Theatre.
