O presente texto apresenta os caminhos da história do Taekwondo no Estado de São Paulo, abordando sua origem, disseminação e seu processo de esportivização. Nesse sentido, realizou-se revisão e análise da literatura existente, numa perspectiva histórica, a fim de sistematizar sua origem na Coréia e difusão mundial; introdução e desenvolvimento no Brasil e as tradições (técnicas e princípios filosóficos) que caracterizam a sua prática. Constatado que a bibliografia referente ao assunto se restringe a dados superficiais de sua história mundial, buscou-se na oralidade de 15 mestres resgatar a memória do taekwondo, questionando-os sobre o seu desenvolvimento em nosso país. Abstract The present study investigates the history of taekwondo in São Paulo State, Brazil, focusing on its origin, dissemination and process of transformation to a competitive sport. It reviews and analyzes the existent literature based on a historical perspective to define the origin of taekwondo its world wide difusion, its introduction and development in Brazil, and tradition (techniques and philosophical principles) that characterizes its practice. Given that the current knowledge on this topic is limited to a superficial always of its world history the present study interpreted verbal reports of 15 taekwondo masters to recover its memory and discussed its evolution in this country.
