Abstract
Violence against women remains a major problem in contemporary societies. The aim of this work is to study how this problem is addressed in popular music songs in Spain, establishing a link between the different musical styles and their description of gender-based violence. To this end, it has been decided to develop a quantitative methodology based on the analysis of the content of a sample consisting of a total of 210 songs, which have this theme, accumulated over the last four decades. This research aims to show how popular music songs can be an ideal communication tool to raise awareness of the dimensions of the problem of gender-based violence.
