Abstract
Objective: the study sets out the state initiatives in favour of women, stemming from the peace agreements in Guatemala; in addition, analytically highlight some of the weaknesses identified and the structural aspects that adversely affect their implementation and results. Originality/contribution: it is mainly the comparative review of public policies, which provides benchmarks for future initiatives or for improving existents.Method: the research is qualitative, descriptive and analytical. Strategies: interpretation based on hermenêutic and holistic approaches, because of the need to identify the path of women and their conquests, but also considering the multidimensional nature of the problem. according to the study, there are still legal rules that legitimise discriminatory practices against women and that gender institutions need to be strengthened in order to fulfil the mission mandate. Public policies have evolved favourably in terms of strategic design and management, but their effective implementation and impact is not yet evident. Gender asymmetries require changes in both institutional practices and social relationships where inequality is a normal.
