Abstract

This article analyses the urban and architectural changes that Bogotá suffered from the celebration of the first Colombian Independence Centenary in 1910, an event that took place in an urbe that would experience overwhelming population and physical growth in the twentieth century. To this end, the economic and political situation of Colombia at the beginning of the twentieth century is described, the location chosen for the commemorative exhibition of the 1910 Centenary is referred to and the architecture of the city is discussed at that time. The various architectural structures that shaped the exhibition, their authors and content, as well as the uses subsequently assigned to them and their final destination, are then described. Finally, it takes stock of the potential urban and architectural implications of this exhibition in Bogotá’s development in the 20th century.
