Development of a Web-based Measuring Assessment System in Arabic education

Abstract

Measurement and evaluation, one of the most important stages of the learning process, provides a wide range of opportunities for solving potential problems in the learning process, as well as to check if learning is going to take place as requested. Of course, this puts the measurement and evaluation in a very important functional position, especially in foreign language education. Therefore, the measuring system in language-learning programmes should be considered not only as a tool to determine student achievement, but also as a self-control mechanism to maintain, enhance and improve the effectiveness of the programme. Our work deals with the subject from the Arabic language taught as a foreign language in the seminary faculties. As of 2010, 30% of the preparatory programme, including the preparatory class, starts to be given in Arabic, compulsory to question the measuring and assessment system in Arabic education, and designing a new system. Necmettin Erbakan University Faculty of Divinity is conducting a study from May 2009 on a web-based measuring assessment system intended to be designed by developing information technologies. This study will also focus on the basic criteria for which such a measuring assessment system is necessary to develop such a measurement assessment system and which a web-based measurement assessment system needs to be based on today's changing needs. Finally, the specifications of the designed web-based measurement assessment system will be introduced.
