Abstract
Ensuring internal security is one of the fundamental objectives of European integration in the context of the creation of an area of freedom, security and justice within the European Union. The objective of the EU’s internal security policy is to support Member States in maintaining law and order and safeguarding internal security. Over the past 20 years, there have been major developments in the area of EU internal security and many initiatives, policy programmes and legal instruments at Union level have emerged. The aim of this article is to showcase the development of the EU’s internal security policy, its main objectives and challenges for the coming years.
