Equality Plans as a tool to achieve gender equality in Latin America: More than an objective?

Abstract

This article analyses how gender equality policies are being designed in 18 Latin American countries on the basis of the study of their latest published Equal Opportunities Plans for Women and Men. The article notes its drafting process, the objectives pursued and the priority areas. We want to know which types of policies have the greatest weight in their commitment to gender mainstreaming, if equal opportunities, positive action or mainstreaming policies. This is a descriptive study of equality plans to identify the main characteristics of the cross-cutting gender management carried out by national governments in Latin America through their equality plans.
