The organisation Of Lithic Technology Among The Early inhabitants Of Eastern Uruguay

Abstract

The results of the investigations carried out at the Fire Corner site (Rocha, Uruguay) were presented. The lithic traces (lakes, cores, carved instruments, instruments made by picotting or abrasion, preforms of projectile tips and projectile tips) recovered at early levels were analysed. The analysis has looked at the specificity of the differential use of raw materials and the different manufacturing processes, thus identifying the different technological subsystems. The organisation of technology for early inhabitants in the east of Uruguay involved the supply of various mineral raw materials, both local and regional, and extra-regional. Major movements were made to supply good quality rocks, in line with high residential mobility hunters operating a wide range of environmentesThis paper presenting the results of research carried out in Rincón de los Indios site, Rocha, Uruguay. The lithic remains (flakes, CORES, flaked instruments, polyshed and predicted instruments, projectile point preforms and projectile points) collected from the early levels were analysed. The objective was to study the distinct use of raw materials and manufacturing procedures, identifying the different technological sub-systems. The technological organisation of the early inhabitants of eastern Uruguay involved in the acquisition of a variety of local, regional and extra-regional mineral raw materials. These groups undertook signifi cant displacements in order to stock up on good quality rocks, which accords with groups of hunter-givers with high residential mobility who exploited a high diversity of environments
