Through the study of Asuntos Políticos fund of Cuba National Archives, this paper approaches the construction of social categories, in order to deal with various historical phenomena whose expression has always been focused from categories such as marginality and criminality. We study the characteristics of the whole archival documents, and discuss some files with the purpose of reflecting on the strong presence of military authority in the administration of justice and the political manipulation of social categories during the nineteenth century.
