A brief historical outline of linguistics is presented since its inception as a scientific discipline in the nineteenth century, and the possible points of contact between the two disciplines are discussed: anthropology and linguistics. Finally, a brief historical overview of the development of linguistic anthropology in the Mexican scenario and its perspectives are presented today.
