Prevalence of cases of family violence against women at pregnancy, childbirth and postgraduate stages

Abstract

The study aimed at learning about the prevalence of family violence cases within women attending the Maternity and Obstetrics Service during the stage of pregnancy, delivery and puerpery. A protocol to detect violence cases was designed and a structure interview was applied to 529 women attending the Maternity and Obstetrics Service in external consulting rooms as well as those in ward. This article shows data resulting form a research developed within the frame work of an UBACYT Project (AS41) passed by the Secretariat for Science and Techniques of the University of Buenos Aires. The field work took place in the Maternity and Obstetrics Service of a public hospital in the jurisdiction of Buenos Aires city.
