Abstract
The Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country of Madrid, founded in 1775, was a leading corporation propagandist of the achievements of Illustration, and sought to encourage, through the written pleadings of its partners, that minorities open to reforms join forces to achieve public happiness, a task in which the partners considered that the entire community should be involved, starting with the King, who expressed their strong interest in Spain’s economic and social progress. His long print shows the continued recurrence of the use of words such as homeland, nation, patriot and even citizen. Words used, in part, with imprecise meaning. In these texts, these men defined themselves as patriots, as they were convinced that they were working for the common good.
