Judaiche Lucerne from the Terme of Trebula Balliensis

Abstract

This contribution presents the results of the study carried out on the Roman terrain of Trebula Balliensis, with a focus on the artefacts found in W-D-E environments during the excavations carried out in 2009. The ceramic material analysed belongs to the 4-5 UUSS stratigraphic sequence, relating to the period of abandonment of the spa plant. In addition to various tardoantic containers, similar to others well documented in Campania, the discovery of numerous fragments of Juddaic lucerne with the symbol of the candelabor is of particular importance. In the light of these and other findings, a new proposal for interpretation on the latest stages of attendance of the facility is outlined. Judaic Lamps from the baths of Trebula Balliensis The purpose of this contribution is the analysis of the baths of Trebula Balliensis, with a particular focus on the diagnostic arts covered from rooms W-D-E (2009 exceptions). The analysed ceramic materials are recorded in the stratigraphic sequence UUSS 4-5, related to the abandonment of the spa-complex. In addition to some late-antique classes, all well documented in the Campania region, the finding of a new kind of lamp with the symbol of the menorah is considered as specifically relevant. Furthermore, the present study suggests a different line of interpretation regarding the final stages of the site.
