Abstract
This Article reflects on the Afro-genetic paradigm and post-modern approaches based on the theory of learning. It proposes that they should complement each other on the basis of the analysis of historical and ethnographic information gathered during monograph work with the Afro-descendant population in Bogotá. The dynamics of ethnicity and inter-ethnic relations are addressed by analysing life stories in which people talk about migration experiences, urban-metropolitan integration and, in particular, work on itinerant sales. In addition, the particular experiences of Afro-descendants as street sellers in the city centre are described, correlated to the interference of restrictive public space policies and certain discriminatory and socio-racial stereotyping practices.
