EDUCATIONAL AND INTERGENERATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPORTS GUIDANCE: RESEARCH FROM PRACTICE IN RURAL AREAS

Abstract

Although, in principle, we live in a socio-cultural context that calls for intergenerational relations as an ideal, there are many prejudices and stereotypes around old age and young people that do not allow them to be fluid (VVAA, 2008). We have seen that, as it ages, social relations are reduced, moving older people to relate only to equals. This is much more evident after retirement, in a context where most social relationships and life decisions are generated around work. The home is thus presented as a space that provides security, against a public space that, despite offering opportunities for peer-to-peer leisure, considers it unsuitable or difficult to adapt (Becerril, 2015). We propose research focused on the analysis of a leisure practice around physical activity in the natural environment that takes place in the rural town of Magaz de Pisuerga (Palencia, Spain), under the title ‘Intergenerational day of sports orientation’, as part of the municipal council’s educational and sports programming, and trying to make the recently mapped guidance map (in accordance with ISSOM regulations) useful and disseminated in the Cerro ‘El Castillo’ area and surrounding areas. The registration requirement is participation in couples with an age difference of at least 15 years.
